According to the High School Football America Alabama Top 10 high school football rankings, Clay-Chalkville is ranked #1.
If No. 2 Thompson defeats No. 7 Hoover in 7A area 3, he may win the area title outright.
A victory would give No. 3 Central (Phenix City) at least a share of the 7A Region 2 championship. This week, the Red Devils take on Opelika. They would have a 5-0 region mark if they won.
Auburn, rated fifth, takes on Carver Montgomery, ranked last. Both have 4-1 area records going into this weekend. A portion of the area championship is still up for grabs for the victor.
